Happy New Year

We had a lovely Christmas, managed to see both families on Christmas Day for the first time ever. Nicely full and tired by the end of it.

Unfortunately Franks mum sufferred a heart attack on the 27th, the day she was due to return to Spain, so she is now in the BRI. I had been in there about 2 hours before and thought it would be my last visit until at least February. How wrong I was. She is recovering well and we hope she will be out next week, but we don't know when she can go home (to Spain) yet or what lifestyle changes it means.

So 2007 is looking just as interesting as 2006 has been.

Anyway the purpose of this message is to wish everyone reading this a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas and New Year to everyone. We are having a quiet family Christmas at home, planning a country walk to work off the excesses, followed by a few days in Wales for the New Year. Really looking forward to it.

As I will be in hospital on the 8th January, Frank wil endeavour to keep the blog updated. The operation will be on the 9th and I expect to be in for 5-7 days. I have to come off the Warfarin for about a month, which is typical as I've just got it stabalised!

Today is probably the last day in work for a lot of you, so don't get too drunk!

Speak soon

Never a dull moment

It's two weeks since I did an update and it's been a busy time.

We spent a lot of the first week talking to the support nurses, bringing them up to date with what had happened and talking things through with them. They've seen it all before so they are an extremely useful source of information, under funded and under resourced though unfortunately. I expressed the desire to see the scan pictures so I could visualise the tumour and have the opportunity to discuss the decisions that the team had made based on those scans.

This meeting took place on Monday with my Oncologist Consultant and it was fascinating to see the scans and discuss their diagnosis. At the end of that meeting I asked to see the Surgeon to discuss with him why operating was not an option. This meeting was arranged on Wednesday.

We expected to hear why he wouldn't operate but instead he said he was willing to go in and have a look with a view to cutting away as much of the tumour as possible to give the chemo more of a chance against a smaller mass. There were no guarantees, he may look and do nothing, in which case I will be in the same position I am now or I may, and I hope, get a better head start, with a view to buying more time for me in the future.

I didn't decide there and then, I've never had an Op, hate the thought of being in Hospital for 5-6 days, and I'm squeemish! However after a few stiff drinks and a night to sleep on it, I've decided to go ahead with the surgery. It's booked for the 8th January in St Michaels, so I'm going to have a damn good Christmas and New Year beforehand, actually it's already started.

Speak soon, when I have more info, things are moving on at such a pace.

Forgot the INR, it's stabalised pretty well now, shame I'll have to come off the Warfarin for the Op!
