Round 6 Underway

We had a small concern last week when I started bruising again, so we booked a blood test. The results were fine and although my platelet count had dropped significantly it wasn't low enough to require a platelet tranfusion. Had my blood tested again on Monday and it was fine so Round 6 Part 1 was given to me today with no problems.

My leg continues to improve, as long as the terrain is flat and I walk slowly I can now cover a few miles. The leg has reduced in size again from 27% bigger than my other leg to 13% bigger, which was where we started from before the DVT.

The very hot weather isn't helping very much though, either with the leg or the fatigue, but then we will be moaning soon about cold weather, rain and dark nights, so mustn't grumble. :-)

Sunny Devon

We have just returned from a week in Devon at Lobb Fields and a great 40th Birthday Party at Saunton Sands. Last weeks treatment was eventually cancelled (not postponed) as my white count was too low to have it. So I will move straight onto Round 6 next week hopefully. I am returning the wheelchair to the Red Cross tomorrow as the leg is much better and my mobility improving, I hope never to see it again.

Here's to a quiet week!

Another Quiet Week (NOT!)

On Wednesday the dreaded phone call came to tell me my bloods were no good for chemo and on top of that I needed a transfusion. A new blood test was required to see if things had improved since Monday to decide what happened next. Fortunately my white count had recovered enough in only those two days to make the Chemo possible on Thursday as planned (phew!) , but my red count had dropped slightly so the transfusion was still required. So Round 5 of Chemo has started with no problems on Thursday and I had a 6 hour red cell transfusion (3 bags) on Friday to put some colour back into my cheeks. After all that excitement I was pretty tired! Here's looking to another quiet week next week :-)

Tooth Hurty

Not content with cancer and a DVT, I decided I needed a challenge, so over the weekend I developed an abcess for good measure. Today I went to the dentist and the offending tooth was unceremoniously removed. This may affect the chemo due on Thursday, but he didn't put me on antibiotics, so we are hoping it will go ahead as planned.
Saw the Who last week at Ashton Gate, they were brilliant, took me back a bit.
My leg is definitely improving, I can walk further and haven't used the wheelchair hardly at all since we stopped going to the BRI. Frank is getting used to giving me the daily injections, he'd make a lovely nurse, not sure about the legs though :-)
Enjoy the weather, it's hot!
