The operation - Part II
Yesterday (Wednesday) started well, the docs and nurses were pleased with her recovery, they decided to take her off the main ward and put her back into the private side room. They left her oxygen mask on as her blood O2 levels would drop quickly without it (normal after big op), around lunchtime she started feeling sick and was having problems breathing, nurses called for advice and the young Doctors who arrived took a look and suspected a blood clot, possibly affecting the lungs (not good) it was just like a scene from Holby. We managed to sit her up in bed, which immediately help her catch her breath.
She quickly recovered but they wanted to do an X-ray to confirm lungs were clear. Later that afternoon she settled down and managed to eat some food, but later it came back up. Docs recommended she was transferred her back to the main ward so nurses could keep an eye on her, just in case, she was gutted to lose her privacy but it had to be done.
X-ray didn’t show anything but she is scheduled to have a CT scan this Friday which will give a much clearer picture of the lungs.
They eventually relocated her to a quiet part of the ward, but I was worried that nurses didn’t have a clear view of her bed, so I had her moved to a bed right next to their station – lots of lights, movement and noise… I was not popular with my wife that evening :/
Thursday ..… Sheila is feeling a lot, lot better today. She did manage to get some sleep – we had fun and games yesterday, but things have sorted themselves out, and she is getting back to some level of normality. She is still on liquids at the mo, as she cant keep solids down, but she has managed to ‘Break wind’ which is a good sign that her bowel is getting back to normal (too much information?). She managed (with help) to climb out of bed today and sit down on a chair for a few hours. The oxygen mask has now been replace with a small nose tube which is much less claustrophobic. I’ve just left her chilling and watching telly (Judge John Deed on soon – her favourite).
Although she is on the mend I don’t think she is ready for visitors - it may be a while before she is. The senior nurse said she will be there until Monday (at least). There is phone by her bed but the money grabbers are charging 49p per minute for the privilege of calling her. Let me know if you want the number and I will try TXT’ing it to you.
Can I just say the staff at St Michaels are bloody marvellous. Cheers for now – the whisky is a calling.

If you really don't want any visitors you can come & convalesce over here on the Isle of Wight. No bugger will come across that piece of water. Especilly your husband! You could have a well earned rest. We keep thinking of you over here. Keep fighting Mr & Mrs Suarez.
